Government salary transparency for Texas — how we built it

Privacy policy

A short, plain-English statement of what we do and do not collect from visitors, and how public-record data on this site is handled.

What we do not collect

OpenPayrolls Texas does not require an account, does not ask for an email address, and does not run any first-party tracking, analytics, fingerprinting, or behavioral profiling code on its public pages. We do not have a session cookie. We do not maintain a per-visitor log beyond the standard webserver request log retained for security and abuse-prevention purposes for a rolling 30 days, then discarded.

What our hosts may see

Like every website, OpenPayrolls runs on infrastructure that observes basic request metadata: your IP address, the URL you requested, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring page. We retain that information only long enough to investigate abuse (denial-of-service, automated scraping in violation of our terms, or attempts to compromise the site) and we do not sell it, share it, or correlate it with any third-party identifier.

Advertising

This site reserves slot positions for display advertising — you may see those slots labeled in the page source as ADSENSE_HEADER, ADSENSE_IN_CONTENT, ADSENSE_SIDEBAR, and ADSENSE_FOOTER. When and if those slots are populated by a third-party ad network, that network may set its own cookies and observe its own request metadata in accordance with its own privacy policy. If you wish to avoid those cookies entirely, browser-level controls (cookie blocking, tracking-protection lists, content blockers) all work normally on this site.

Public-record information

The salary records, employee names, job titles, agencies, and hire dates published on this site are public-record information made available by the State of Texas under the Texas Public Information Act. We mirror that information from a published source; we do not hold the original record and we do not have the legal authority to alter, suppress, or anonymize records on a one-off basis. If you believe a specific record requires correction or suppression, please see the methodology page for the upstream-correction process.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect or solicit information from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy in any way that materially affects what is collected, we will update this page with a dated note explaining the change and the reason for it. Older versions of this policy will remain available on request.

Privacy questions and removal requests for the website itself (not the underlying data) should be directed to our contact page.
